EN 16005
European standard for the safety

Safety Sensors for Automatic Doors – EN 16005 Standard

The EN 16005 standard enhances safety in the use of automatic doors such as sliding, swing, folding, and revolving doors. It serves as a key guideline for the design, installation, and maintenance of automatic door systems to ensure user safety, particularly in public spaces or areas with diverse user groups. If you are planning to install or upgrade an automatic door system, compliance with this standard helps minimize risks and increase confidence in the safety of the system.

Benefits of Using Sensors Compliant with EN 16005E

1.User Safety: The standard emphasizes the prevention of potential hazards associated with automatic doors, such as pinching, impact, or entrapment. This is especially important in environments with elderly individuals, children, or people with disabilities.

2.Risk Assessment: Installers are required to conduct a risk assessment in collaboration with clients or end-users to determine appropriate design and safety features tailored to the specific environment and user demographics.

3.Maintenance and Annual Inspection: Newly installed automatic doors must undergo maintenance at least once a year by an authorized service provider. All inspections must be documented to ensure continued compliance and safety.

4.Safety Devices: Automatic doors must be equipped with safety devices such as motion detection sensors and anti-pinch mechanisms to prevent accidents during door operation.

5.Legal Compliance: Adhering to EN 16005 is considered compliance with the minimum health and safety requirements related to machinery under European law.

Opening and safety sensor for automatic sliding doors

Safety Sensor for Automatic Doors
IXIO-D EN16005 Standard

The IXIO-D is a hybrid technology sensor designed for the activation and protection of automatic sliding doors worldwide since 2012. Powered by Artek Inside, it delivers a smooth and convenient door-opening experience, featuring an infrared curtain that helps prevent direct contact between users and the door. The IXIO-D ensures safety at the leading edge and threshold of the door during closing. When used in conjunction with the IXIO-S, which provides safety during opening, it forms a complete solution for sliding doors that complies with both EN 16005 and DIN 18650 safety standards.

Comfortable opening

Artek inside, developed and produced by BEA, takes radar technology to the next level. It inherits the stability and reliability of our radar sensors, opening doors only when needed.

Energy-saving_L01_PA

Energy savings

Rejection of cross-traffic is optimized to reduce unwanted opening caused by passing pedestrians. Thanks to the unidirectionality of the radar field, the door also closes sooner for even more energy efficiency.

ixio-reliable-safety

Reliable safety

The tridimensional infrared field is composed of high-density infrared curtains, protecting users from any contact with the doors. The f lexible infrared field can be adapted to all types of sliding doors and is stable in all surroundings and weather conditions.

ixio-intuitive-installation

Intuitive installation

Thanks to the multilingual LCD screen, configuration of the sensor is a matter of a few clicks. The angle of the infrared curtain can be easily adjusted with the help of 4 visible spots.

Safety Sensor for Swing Automatic Doors
FLATSCAN SW EN16005 & DIN 18650 Standard

FLATSCAN SW Sensor

The LZR®-FLATSCAN SW uses laser technology (time of flight measurement) for the safety of swing doors. 170 measurement points provide complete protection for the users.

01_Compact-design_L01_PA

Compact design

The LZR®-FLATSCAN SW can be used on all swing doors, regardless of their size.  Thanks to its compact design (8.5 cm × 14.2 cm) it can be stocked and stored easily.

03_Pinch-Zone-safety_L01_PA

Pinch zone safety

The pinch zone of the LZR®-FLATSCAN SW counts 100 measurement points, divided over 18°. They optimise the detection of small body parts (hands and fingers) in the hinge area.

02_Independent_L01_PA

Independent of flooring and surroundings

The laser technology guarantees stability above all types of floor surfaces (slatted floors, absorbent carpet, reflective floor, slippery surface etc.). It is also independent of the door’s direct environment (handrail, walls, heaters, dustbins etc.).

04_Fast_L01_PA

Fast & intuitive installation

The size of the sensor area is defined by simple hand movements, which leads to installation time savings.
